George Best a fermecat fotbalul. Irlanda sportivă a stat mai bine de un deceniu la picioarele celui mai talentat şi orgolios puşti cu plete. Manchester United s-a sprijinit cu toată greutatea pe umerii unui fotbalist care iubea băutura la fel de mult ca pe propria mamă. Ce a însemnat Best pentru United? Suficient cât să fie înregistrat în fiecare sezon ca jucător profesionist chiar dacă băiatul în cauză se lăsase de ceva vreme şi îşi deschisese un club de noapte. Ce a însemnat Best pentru Irlanda? Suficient cât să apară pe bancnota de 5 lire! Nu e de mirare atunci că cea mai stilată personalitate a ultimii jumătăţi de secol (conform GQ, ediţia 2007) să aibă chiar şi cântece în care să-i fie preamărite faptele de arme!

Don Fardon a atins locul 3 în US Top Charts cu “Indian Reservation”, single pe care l-a vândut în cel puţin un milion de copii. Artistul pop din Coventry ca şi majoritatea britanicilor din generaţia sa a avut o slăbiciune aparte pentru destinul lui Best, un irlandez sărac ridicat din praful Uulsterului în lumina reflectoarelor şi apoi coborât într-o uitare etilică tristă.

Single-ul lui Fardon a fost lansat în 1970, chiar în perioada gloriei fotbalistice a lui George Best şi a fost folosit ca background muzical în documentarul BBC “World of George Best”.
